Wilderness and Urban Survival
Saturday, July 27th 8:00 am – 4:00 pmA unique opportunity to learn and practice both basic andadvanced survival skills from a US Navy SEAL instructor and other renowned survival experts who train our elite Special Forces. This all day “hands-on” workshop is a practical and fun skill building experience, designed to prepare you to survive on land, in the sea, in the wilderness and urban environments. Participants will learn how to:• Signal and be found• Obtain food and water• Build fires with primitive tools• Escape a hotel fire• Construct and improvise survival kits• Survive a plane crash• Protect yourself during a disaster• Travel safely in third world countries and avoid being “ripped off”• Find and construct emergency shelters (build snow caves and igloos)• Recognize and evade terrorists**Please note that if you select this course you should not take Wilderness Survival or Urban and Travel Survival as these classes have overlapping information**
Wilderness Navigation
Saturday, July 27th 8:00am-4:00pmLearn and practice essential skills for safeand efficient wilderness navigation includingtrip planning and implementation. Practiceinterpreting topographic (contour) maps,take and follow compass bearings, and applyaltimeter / GPS information. Learnpitfalls to avoid and tricks to getout of trouble. Workshops have limited enrollment and early reservations are encouraged. Pre-registration is reserved for conference attendees only; if space is available, spots will be sold on site.

Your hotel was destroyed and your companion is missing. Few Americans are prepared to cope with this type of crisis. Urban and travel survival can be more challenging than survival in the backcountry. Learn how to travel safely and protect yourself.

TRACKING WORKSHOP
Monday July 29 OR Tuesday, July 30 | 1:30 - 5:30 pmInstructor: Scott KupiersLearn the lost art of tracking from veteran tracker Scott Kuipers. The ability to notice subtle disturbances in the environment left behind by others (called sign cutting) can be life saving-- for finding lost persons and getting out of trouble. Participants also gain insight on animal behavior and human impacts on the natural world.

Participants will have the opportunity to practice basic suturing, stapling, taping, and tissue gluing techniques on pig limbs.

Instructor: Dora KibbeeMany teenagers travel abroad during high school and attend classes in foreign countries. This course will teach important lessons on awareness, safety, traveling tips, lost documents, and how to cope with a crisis or emergency when away from home.
